Arsity
Arsity covers exhibitions and art spaces in Rome. With We Meet Brands, who created a typographic, minimal design, I built the website in WordPress: browsing across exhibitions and venues, and a map to find them. Years later it still looks current.
Tools used
- WordPress
- Gutenberg blocks
- ACF
- Map
Arsity is a project built with We Meet Brands, an agency I often and gladly work with. Their design is modern, typographic and minimal, and although the site is a few years old, its look has nothing to envy more recent websites.
The client
Arsity is a free, passionate platform about the exhibitions currently on in Rome. Since 2017 it has gathered, organised and told the stories of exhibitions in the city's museums, institutes, galleries and foundations. It began as a collaborative platform, organising more than 100 groups to visit exhibitions, and is launching a subscription to access partner exhibitions from a smartphone.
Architecture and technologies
The site is built on WordPress with a custom theme. Exhibitions and art spaces are content structured with ACF fields, linked to each other and to the map, and pages are composed of Gutenberg blocks: the editorial team publishes exhibitions and content independently while the layout stays intact.
My work
Building a minimal design
In such an essential design every detail shows: grid, typography and spacing must be reproduced precisely, because there are no decorations to hide imperfections.
The map and navigation
The most interesting part was the map view. Exhibitions and art spaces are placed on a map linked to the site's content, to discover what's on and where, and to move from the map to the exhibition or venue page. Alongside the map, exhibitions are organised in sections («The big exhibitions», «Not to be missed», «Just arrived») and can also be explored by words, with «The voice of art», and by images, with «The face of art».
The outcome
Exhibitions and venues are connected in a single experience: from the exhibition to the space hosting it, from the map to the content. And the site ages well: built several years ago, it still holds up against today's websites thanks to a strong design and a rigorous build.
